Parking permit for moving in Amsterdam

As many know, parking in Amsterdam is not easy. There are few places and costs are high. Also during your move, you may encounter the problem that there are no parking spaces available for the moving truck. Below we answer the most frequently asked questions about (parking) permits in Amsterdam.

Do I need a parking permit to move in Amsterdam?

Yes, usually you need a parking permit to use a moving truck or verhuislift in Amsterdam. In Amsterdam the parking rules are strict. Without a permit you risk getting a fine or a lack of available parking space. A permit allows you to reserve a suitable spot or get exceptions on standard parking rules.

In some cases it is possible to load or unload with the moving truck on the sidewalk. All moving are equipped with an RVV-permit and can be loaded and unloaded on the sidewalk in Amsterdam, provided the situation allows it. For example, at least 1.5 meters of sidewalk must remain so that all pedestrians can safely walk past the moving truck.

How do I apply for a parking permit in Amsterdam?

A permit is requested via the online portal of the municipality of Amsterdam. You need information about the location, the type of vehicle or object, and the duration of the move. Make sure to apply at least seven working days before the move to get timely approval. For specific situations, such as using a verhuislift, additional documents or photos may be required.

To provide our customers with a stress-free moving experience, we also offer assistance with applying for parking permits and exemptions. We will search for the appropriate type of permit needed for your move and submit the application to the municipality.

  • Parkeervakkenreservering: For reserving existing parking spaces.
  • Objectmelding: For temporarily placing a verhuislift that is temporarily on the public road.
  • Objectvergunning: For larger objects or longer use of the public space.

What are the alternatives for a parking permit?

There are some alternative solutions in specific situations:

  • RVV-ontheffing of a moving truck: All our moving trucks are equipped with an RVV-permit, which allows them to be parked on the sidewalk, provided the situation allows it. This can be a handy solution in less busy streets.
  • Block parking spaces: You can use two cars to keep the parking spaces in front of the door for free. This is an informal solution, but can save time and money if your move goes smoothly.
  • Loading and unloading place: If it happens to be that there is a loading and unloading place for your home and that the movers can place the moving truck here. In this case, no permit is needed, which saves time and money.
